Lowering The Tone

June 3, 2012

Sunday, in my studio. Catching up outstanding commissions.

What we’re looking at here is page two of the Killing Moon story I’ve mentioned in previous posts. Again, this is drawn completely100% using Gimp, and what I’ve shown here is the finished page in comparison to the layer I’ve used for tones – more accuratley “tone” as I’ve restricted myself to one.

But what I find really interesting is how “dramatic” the tones layer looks without the inks. Especially panel two.

I do this a lot using digital colouring etc. – switch off the inks or pencil layers and look at the tone or colours in isolation. Can be pretty interesting.
